Three Reasons You Need Shape Ups: 1. Stronger You 2. Healthier You 3. Easy Exercise Routine Three Reasons You Want Them: 1. In Style 2. Portable Power 3. A Brand You Trust |
The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk.
As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and donât gain the benefits that come with all that activity.
The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back.
Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps.
Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground
- The heel sinks comfortably into the soft ground as you step
- You naturally roll forward as your weight shifts to the center and your balance is centered
- Easily push off with your toe pads

Get in the Routine
1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel â" hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes â" hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel â" hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times.
3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times.
4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times.
- Upper: Superior quality, well padded uppers of durable leather and breathable mesh designed to provide needed support and supreme comfort.

Easy way to amp up your walks (2010-06-09)
I bought these shoes to give some added value to my walks since with two dogs and a 7-month-old baby walking is going to be my primary source of exercise for a while. I truly believe that they have helped my legs/butt tremendously. I am 5'3", currently about 125 lbs - not by any means overweight but extremely out of shape from a difficult pregnancy. So limp calves and a tendency toward thigh and butt cellulite. After a couple months walking with these my calves are rock-hard and there is such improvement to the cellulite areas I feel they actually look better than they did pre-pregnancy when I was only 114 lbs! As other people have commented there is a breaking in period during which your feet and legs might ache more than you are used to. And I still find that I can "feel the burn" in my legs more than when walking in regular sneakers - but that's the point!
I did not notice any of the quality issues that I read about in other reviews. They have been holding up nicely, even after walking through woods and an 8-mile power walk on pavement. I initially felt nervous about spending this much money on an "exercise trend" sneaker, but have to say that I think the money was well spent. I highly recommend these sneakers if you are looking to amp up your walks.
Funnest Shoes EVER (2010-05-14)
I had been debating between these and the Reebok Tone Ups but when I tried them both on in the store, I was simply not as impressed with the Reebok's. I run everyday so I thought the Reebok would be better because they would share a dual purpose but then I figured that the Sketchers shape ups were just so much fun that I was willing to give up my new pair of running shoes. To be honest though, after trying on the Reebok's I'm not so sure I would have wanted to run in those either. I'd rather have the Shape Ups for walking around all day and a good pair of Aisics to run/jog in. The Sketchers make my feet feel amazing all day that I don't mind walking long distances in them at all! My back feels great and my posture has improved greatly. Sketchers also sell the Shape Up XF Accelerators which you're supposed to be able to "jog" in but when I tried them on in the store, they weren't as wobbly because they are lower profile (and hence not as fun) and they didn't seem like a good running shoe to me so why not just get the regular shape ups and have more fun, right?
They feel like platform shoes on a rocking chair but more stable; like there is a small ball on the arch of your feet that you have to balance on to build muscle. You just have to try it to really get the true feel of it.
They can look a bit goofy so I would stay away from the bright colors to minimize the visual attention.
AND, yes. I am seeing pretty good results so far but it's only been a few days. ;)
Good, but few issues. (2010-04-27)
I bought these same shoes else where (only place that would put them on sale for less than 99.00).
Cons: They are pricey for stay at home mom, but got them finally on sale. Have had 4 weeks. Wear daily around house and errands. Power walk 4-6 days a week (outside and on a treadmill). Daughter likes to take shortcut through woods on walks an these shoes are NOT good on uneven ground. I can't walk fast then because twisting an ankle in woods would be very easy (I know their not meant for over terran hiking). Once to more stable ground they're great.
After first week, the right shoe feels like something is adding pressure in a line on the sole (metatarsal part of foot). It starts to really hurt an burn after 30 of power walking. I've not read any other complaints about this. My assumption is that where the soles are glued together someone got a little heavy with the glue line or something. It feels like I'm walking with a shoe lace stuck under my foot. Could be just this pair of shoes defect.
Size was bit small. My normal is 7 1/2 to 8 in tennis shoes. The 8 was touching my toes just enough that I knew for power walking they'd hurt. Got the 8 1/2 even though they feel slighty to big, but I like to wear 2 pair of socks to prevent blisters. Put with this also the heal slips some because they don't fit my heel as good.
Pros: Works muscles not usually used. They have helped defined my calf muscles (not something I really needed more of, but muscle is muscle an burns more calories). Unless your in shape, I wouldn't recommend doing lots of walking in them right off. I can feel it in my glutes an thighs, but not as much.
I have a herniated disc so the extra shock cushioning is very nice.
They do add spring to your step. It does feel better than shoes I've used with gel or air cushioning.
The extra 2" of height. I wear my long jeans over them an you don't even notice that they're a platform shoe.
Very comfortable to wear all day, especially for hospital or clinic (cement) floors.
Over all, I'm seriously thinking of saving for another pair.
They're everything they say they are. (2010-03-25)
I recently bought a pair of Shape ups and the 1st thing I noticed was that my feet don't hurt anymore. The round bottom gives great arch support.
The 2nd thing I noticed was that I was feeling muscles working in my legs and posterior more than they have before.
The 3rd thing I noticed is that they are best used on level ground since walking on uneven ground can get a little tricky.
The 4th thing I noticed is that I wanted to walk further and longer and didn't need to stop and rest so often. Why didn't someone think of this idea before?!
They aren't for running, just walking, so if walking is what you want to do, definitely get these shoes!
PS. I also love the color. I got the gray and pink shoes. I wish they made a solid gray but these are still really cool looking shoes.
You have to try these! (2010-02-18)
I was concerned that these shoes were going to be a waste of money, but I was pleasantly surprised. I really love the cushy feel of the shoes, very comfortable if you spend a lot of time standing. I noticed slight soreness to the muscles in my lower back and abs the second day of wearing them. I could also feel the muscles working harder in the fronts of my thighs. If you really want a workout, walking up and down the stairs in them really gets your muscles working...but be careful, it's easy to lose your balance on the stairs in them. Overall they are great shoes and I am already looking for a second pair to wear to work.
